"Hey Guys. Guess what? I got my first spankin' on Tuesday. It wasn't pretty. Do you wanna know what I did? Well, I looked right at my mama with an 'I'm the boss' face and gave a big 'ole high five to my Pops' fancy TV. You know, the one that I know I'm not allowed to touch."

It's true. It happened. My hub and I have known that the time for spanking was coming, but we still were unsure as to what willful disobedience would look like. Don't get me wrong, we've had glimpses up until now, but nothing hard core...mostly just rule reminders. I'd been praying consistently for the past week for guidance...and when he made that face at me, I knew. I'm not gonna lie, it was one of my least favorite mama moments ever. After I spanked him, he had a tear in both eyes and turned around to hug my neck. We had a sweet moment of reconciliation and then he ran off to play with "melmo" (elmo). "That's when my eyes began to get a little bit of wet in them" (thank you junie b. jones). This discipline thing is hard! I'm so thankful to have mommy friends going through this with me. My dear friend Shellie sent me this verse...SOOOOO good! Soak it up all you mama's out there, and keep up the good work!

peace out! this mama is off duty! we celebrated our 5 year anniversary and shellie & brian celebrated shell's bday. cheers amigos!

First afternoon by the beach. We couldn't believe we were actually in cancun! aye aye!
That's right...my suit looks like rainbowfish. All I need is one sparkly fin...

the handsome esposos. thankful that the hubs had each other b/c shellie and I were perfectly content sitting in the sun reading all day...the boys, not so much.

did I mention we pretty much read all day :) We did take breaks, however, to chat about what was happening in our book, point out a cute swimsuit, get a bev or pizza, talk about our sweet babies, play a little bump-set-spike with the hubs in the pool...but most often you could find us looking like this above.

All this to say, the trip was a dream. great time with great friends. lots of fun memories-ready to go again! Thank you camp grammy & pops for taking excellent care of t-rex, and making this all possible :)

My Granddaddy

My Granddaddy went to be with His Lord this morning at 1:27am. I was already awake when I got the text at 2:20-I could feel it coming. Weird...but then again, it's not. The Lord cares for us in unique little situations like that. It's just His kind nature to ready me and sit with me through it. While I sat there in the dark I began thinking about what he would say to me...what he has said to me through his actions. This process brought a lot of happy tears. Here are just a few...no doubt I will come up with more throughout this process.
Find someone your heart loves , and then choose to keep loving them each day. Man, he was good at that!

Put others needs before your own. I often remember my Granddaddy massaging my Nonnie's feet. It didn't matter where we were, he wanted to make her comfortable and serve her...even if we were at the arboretum. :)

Be passionate about the things you love. He loved education and learning. All things LSU. Trains got him going. His family was precious to him.

Play hard through life with the ones you love. I miss him already.

1. He doesn't get stressed out in target when T-Rex starts screaming in a deafening key. I looked at him very seriously and said, "get us to the check out line as fast as you can." He started running with the shopping cart, looked over his shoulder expecting me to tell him to stop you silly man...but all I did was nod in approval. That's what I'm talking about.

I just have to tell you that I love Rosi Golan. Do you know about her? Do you need some drivin' around town (well...Richardson) windows down (not all the way down though...all the junk in my car would fly everywhere) springtime music? She's it. Thanks to my Hub for always finding me great tunes...without you things grow hazy :) I love that guy!

where this post will lead me...here goes. So the latest thing we've been up to is this cra-zy workout and nutrition plan called insanity. No lie-it's insane. We've done the mealy thing for two weeks and of course my hub is dropping the poundage right and left. ridiculous. (he has been keeping a food journal to keep a record of his calories...which i want nothing to do with...after all, that would mean I would have to write down that AMAZING bunkies donut a friend gave me this morning, shoot, and the package of m&m's another friend gave me yesterday. Man, i have great friends...they really are standing beside me on my fitness journey. :) We've only actually worked out 4 times (mainly because we are giving so many hours of our lives to american idol) but you just wait..we're about to kick it into high gear.

next topic: uh...Tanner. He randomly reveals words he knows. Yesterday morning I sneezed and he said "bless". Who taught him that! Freaky! We were walking up to Target and all the sudden he shouts out, "Bi!" he was pointing to a bike. Are you kidding me. Made me think twice this morning as we danced to my potty mouth workout mix...gotta do somethin' about that.

next: um..I've GOT to get one of my favorite candles TODAY! My house smells like salmon...but only because I actually made salmon. Don't worry. In case you were wondering, my dream candle is one of the volcano ones that Anthropologie is often burning at north park. I could live in that store. no joke.

Birth Story

Here's how things went down.

-Checked into the hospital thursday night and started on some medicine to get the uterus ready for the pitocin I would start receiving the next morning.

Huge! I also had two monitors on the front of my tummy.

-Had inconsistent contractions throughout night, woke up around 5am and started pitocin at 6:30.

-Our doula, Laci, came to the hospital and the three of us began using our strategies to deal with the pain of the contractions. I was able to get out of bed and use an exercise ball. Those five hours were very special because my husband was very involved. That time was what I had hoped my labor experience would be like, so I'm very thankful for those memories.

-Broke my water around noon because I was at a stopping point with my dilation. OUCH! NO MAAM! EPIDURAL PLEASE! The actual breaking of the water was not the painful part, it was the weight of Tanner pressing down where before there was a nice little cushion. Epidural Angel man came quickly and hooked me up. Ahhhh. Much better.

-I slept a little while and then around 3:30 the dr said I was fully dilated and ready to start pushing! I pushed for 2 hours...

My hub, of course, was an amazing encourager the entire day.

-Dr said he had a few major concerns about Tanner's journey into the world, highly recommended c-section. Agreed-let's go!

-Everything went great in the OR. I was very annoyed with having the shakes from the meds and major dry mouth. Staff members kept coming over me with their little masks introducing themselves but I just kinda grunted back at them. My thought process was...these relationships I'm building will more than likely only be for 1 hour...so let's just get on with the operation people.

-About 30 minutes later...AT LAST! TANNER!

Yep, you guessed it. We have not had our baby yet. Went in for an appointment on Monday morning. I heard my name called, looked up expecting to see one of my regular nurses waiting for me...but a different nurse had said Lindsay. Before jumping up and having some awkward race ya to the nurse moment, I looked around the room to see if another Lindsay was being called. Nope...this nurse was coming for me! And she was the nurse that takes the sonograms! Is it my lucky day!??! She told me that when a mom goes over her due-date they usually do a sono. It was such a nice little gift to see Tanner after not seeing him since I was 17 weeks. She said he has a little bit of hair (on his head-no beard from what I could see) and chubby cheeks. The sonographer said her machine was reading 9 pounds 3 ounces. Doc said 8 pounds 14. We shall see. (remember this was on Monday...he probably weights 12 pounds by now :) )We can hardly wait!!!

At that appointment I was 3 cm dilated and 90% effaced. I am #1 on the waiting list to be induced. All I know is that we will for sure have this baby no later than Monday. PLEASE let's have this baby.

It's true...I'm still very pregnant. BELIEVE ME...I WILL SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS WHEN I GET TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL! You, my friends, will know. Went to the doctor yesterday...90% effaced, 2 cm dilated. Just as "my eyes started to get a little bit of wet in them" (quote from Junie B. Jones), my doctor reassured me that most first time moms go into labor not dilated at all...so somehow I'm still ahead of the game. (?) Interesting. Not feeling ahead at this point. So my next question was how long will you let me go past my due date. He said he doesn't like to let moms go past 41 weeks....so practicing my old trusty speaker/listener technique I learned in our premarital class, I proceed to say, "so what I'm hearing you say is that I could still be pregs for 2 more weeks?" Yes, Lindsay, you heard me correctly. Wow. Thankfully the doctor and nurse exit stage left and leave me for some much needed time to myself. Sheesh, what a doozie. Any tips to get this ball rollin'? What worked for you?

So I am currently 38 weeks pregs and massive. Went to see the doctor yesterday, he said I am 50% effacement and 1 cm dilated! It's almost T-Time! We will update the blog if and when there is any action. I sure hope there is action soon!!!!!!!

Here are some prego pics as well as some nursery in progress pictures. Eventually, there will be a chair rail just above the stripes...oh yes, and some adorable bedding that mom is working on. I love how it's coming together! We're trying to get it as finished as possible since a lot of our family will be in town this weekend. We'll see. This big ole belly slows me down a bit :)

Went to the doctor yesterday and he said everything looks great. I asked him if we'de be having anymore sono's (i said it super sweet hoping I might get to see Tanner one more time before his big arrival...I miss seeing that little guy!) but to no avail. Rats! He said we would only do one if he felt the need to...and that we don't want him to "feel the need to". True true.

Mom and Dad took us and Taylor and Amanda on a mini-vacation to Possum Kingdom. The girls had a great time relaxing at the spa while the boys played an incredibly challenging yet scenic round of golf. The next day we played with some lake toys. It was a great getaway weekend!

Here's my belly at 16 weeks...getting pretty big, eh? I get to go back to see the doctor Thursday, June 4th. I called to ask if I would get to find out the sex of the baby since I would only be 17 1/2 weeks(I didn't want to be disappointed), and the nurse said yes! We can't wait to find out!

We closed on this adorable house this past Friday! We can't wait to get in there and start painting. It's project time! It's a corner lot and was built in '59. I'll post pictures along the way. We will begin moving in June 1st. We are so thankful that everything went relatively smoothly. The Lord really sustained us and guided us each step of the way. Can't wait to have everyone over!

100th day of school

Yes, today was the 100th day of school. If you are unfamiliar with the early elementary grades, this is a big deal! Naturally I invited my great-grandmother, who is 100 years old, to teach for me. Granny Imagene (with her oatmeal pantyhose) was a huge HUGE hit. Kids were helping me walk down the hall, carefully selecting level routes for me to and from recess, and making sure that with each sniffle or sneeze I was still okay. Very sweet. What I love about dressing up with my class is that they don't really want to know if that's really just Mrs. Loucks dressed up...for the most part they just play along with it and have fun imagining. I know...my job is perfect for me. I'll include a group picture of our first grade team as soon as I get it.

Me, Hub, Elizabeth, and Chase got up at the crack this morning and started our 2 week boot camp called Camp Gladiator. It's from 5:30-6:30 in the a.m.! I was shocked to see around 40 other crazies up that early working out...and it was 43 degrees out there! It was a hard but good workout...yes I almost threw up a few times, but isn't that the mark of a good workout? yeesh.

We had an incredible weekend in Louisiana! Dad scored 4 amazing sky-box tickets for the LSU vs. Bama game this past Saturday. Dad, Taylor, Hub, and I had a great time chowing down on authentic Cajun food, hearing stories of mom & dads time at LSU, experiencing the band and entire football team parading down the street, participating in the most fun (and loudest) football game I think I've ever been to, and did I mention the sky-box seats? Unbelievable. Take a peak into our weekend.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I (Lindsay) had the entire week off to relax. Ahhhh. It was really fun to have two of our friends from our apartment complex join us for the feast at my parents house.
